ABSTRACT. The progress that has been made in basic fish nutrition and fodder science also underscores the impact appropriate diets have on appropriate fish growth, condition, and health. One of the primary determiners of good fish condition and health is appropriate nutrition that ensures the fish receive the essential quantities of protein, carbohydrates, and fat needed for survival. As is apparent from daily practice, most rearing facilities in Poland continue to feed carp monodiets based on grains, coarse plant seeds, and below-grade waste and by-products from the agricultural and foodstuffs industries. Poland also lacks a system for enriching or modifying such monodiet feeds, which is something that could improve substantially the biological and dietary quality of feed.
