ABSTRACT. Hematology analysis is a one of the basic tools used to evaluate the health and welfare of fishes. It is commonly used in scientific studies to assess the influence of various abiotic and biotic factors on fishes. Its greatest advantage is its low cost and that it does not require sophisticated laboratory equipment. However, some stages of hematology analysis require knowledge and experience. Interpreting hematological results is difficult because widely accepted reference values for red and white blood cell indices are lacking for most fish species.
Key words: hematological analysis, manual method, fish welfare
